Stevens Elementary Book Drive

Lesotho volunteer Tanya Kamila, a teacher at Stevens Elementary, is leading a book drive among her students and families which has resulted in over 500 books with more coming in as of late October!

Lesotho's second official language is English and Lesotho boasts one of the highest literacy rates among developing nations. However the current book collection numbers just 250 for over 650 students and orphans.

So it goes without saying what a huge impact this book drive will have on the children at St Theresa. A very big thank you to Tanya and Stevens - well done all!!!

PS 11/7/08 - Tanya has inspired many others and with her lead we have collected nearly 3,000 books to establish a full lending library at the school. Thank you to all who donated and to our volunteers for carrying these books to Lesotho!

Macrina Bakery Benefit Dinner

Leslie Mackie and her wonderful staff at Macrina provided a magical evening on July 31. In celebration of Macrina's 15th Anniversary and continuing Macrina's long tradition of giving, they hosted a benefit dinner to support the Time Talent Treasure Exchange project in Lesotho.

Diners were treated to a a fabulous meal showcasing favorite dishes from the last 15 years. Leslie, a four-time nominee for a James Beard Award as the country's best pastry chef, outdid herself - between the great food, excellent service, and Lesotho presentation by Rome Ventura, all were sated, gastonomically and emotionally!

However, diners weren't the only ones treated - the lot of them turned right around and treated our project as well. Generous as the attendees were in supporting the dinner, they gave yet again throughout the evening, bringing the happy fundraising total to date to:
